The Free Advantage Most Poker Players Waste

Position costs nothing, yet it improves bluffs, value bets, pot control, and nearly every postflop decision.

Let the table show its hand first

Players acting later see checks, bets, and raises before choosing. That information reduces guesswork and helps select better bet sizes. The button is strongest after the flop; the blinds are difficult because they usually act first.

Control the price of the decision

In position, you can check behind, bet when an opponent shows weakness, or seek another street of value. Play more hands from the cutoff and button, defend blinds selectively, and prefer clear combinations when acting early.

Find the leak hidden by results

When reviewing a hand, record where you were seated before judging the cards. Grouping mistakes by position often reveals patterns that wins and losses alone cannot show.
